  10. SafahatXT 1.0 DEMO

  12. SafahatXT is an XTensions™ that turns QuarkXPress™ into an Arabic DTP software. All the features of QuarkXPress 3.32 or later are available now for the Arabic language.  SafahatXT does not require the Arabized operating system.

  14. SafahatXT takes care of all the Arabic language requirements and adds several features to QuarkXPress itself as to adapt it to the requirements of the Right to Left Arabic language.

  16. Installation
  17. • Drag the SafahatXT to your QuarkXPress XTensions folder.
  18. • Drag the Arabic fonts to your system fonts folder. You can also use Suitecase utility to load the fonts. 
  19. • Start QuarkXPress.
  20. • You will get a new menu called Arabic.

  22. Getting started
  23. SafahatXT allows you to "Tag" text boxes to Arabic, in order to write right to left Arabic text. Arabic boxes can also contain mixed English and Arabic text.

  25. To Create an Arabic Text Box
  26. Create a New text box.
  27. From the Arabic menu, choose Tag Box To Arabic. The text cursor will be put at the right of the box.
  28. Start typing your Arabic text.

  30. Importing Arabic text
  31. Arabic XT can import Arabic text written in other Arabic word processors and saved as ASCII text. To import Arabic text, tag the box to Arabic and use the "Get Text " command in the File menu, choose te file, and import the text.

  33. Exporting Arabic text
  34. Arabic XT can also export Arabic text for editing in other Arabic word processors: Select the text you wish to export, choose "Save Text" from the file menu, then select ASCII Arabic text from the format popup menu.

  36. Mixing Latin & Arabic text
  37. If you wish to insert a Latin string in an Arabic text box: Press the Ctrl + Right Arrow, this will switch the language to Latin insert mode. To go back to the Arabic mode, press the Ctrl + Left Arrow.

  39. Creating Latin boxes
  40. To create a Latin text box, select Tag Box to Latin from the Arabic menu. This will allow you to edit Latin text just like you would normally do in QuarkXPress.

  42. Copy/Paste Attributes
  43. Since QuarkXPress version 3.x does not allow you to copy text attributes on character level basis, Arabic XT adds this feature. To copy a text attribute from selected text, choose Copy Attributes from the Arabic menu, or press the Ctrl+Option+C. To paste the text attributes, select the text you wish to apply the attributes on and choose Paste Attributes from the Arabic menu or press the Ctrl+Option+V.

  45. Other safahatXT utilities
  46. Flip Document Layout
  47. If you do multilingual publications, you will always find yourself re-creating a whole English page design to make it in Arabic. Since Arabic text reads from right to left, Arabic page designs should also read from right to left.
  48. If you have a Latin page designed and you wish to create the same design from right to left, SafahatXT saves you the time to re-create your mirrored page layout.
  49. To flip a page design, choose Flip Document Layout from the Arabic menu->Utilities. You will be able to flip the current page, or spread as well as to flip according to the center of the Page or center of the spread.
  50. Additional controls such as Automatically empty text boxes, allow you to re-import the translated text, and automatically flip box angles.

  53. Keeping the language after a font change
  54. If you select a range of Arabic mixed with English text and you wish to change the font and keep the language, do not change the font from the Measurement palette, instead, choose Style->Font and choose the font. If you choose an English font, only English text within the selection range will be affected, the same applies to the Arabic text.

  56. How to change the Attributes of a specific language within a mixed selection range?
  57. If you select a range of Arabic mixed with English text, and you want to change the size, typestyle, color, shade, scale or any text attribute of Arabic text only or Latin text only or both, follow these procedures:
  58. • To Change the attributes of the Arabic text only, hold down the Option Key before you select the Style menu.
  59. • If you hold down the Apple key before you select the Style menu, only English text will be affected.
  60. • If you do not hold any modifier keys, or do the style change from the floating palettes, all the selection range will be affected.

  62. How to predefine the Arabic and English font, size and style that will be used by default when editing empty Arabic text boxes or when importing mixed Arabic and English text?
  63. If you choose Edit Style Sheets in the Style Menu, you will find by default 2 style sheets, one called Normal and the other called Arabic style.
  64. All character styles you define in the Normal style will be used by default for Latin text.
  65. All character styles you define in the Arabic style will be used by default for Arabic text.
  66. For example, suppose you wish to import mixed Arabic text, and automatically apply the font GihaneLight, Plain, 14pt Black to Arabic text, and Helvetica Plain, 12pt, Red for English mixed text, you can simply apply those attributes to the Arabic & Normal style sheets BEFORE you import the text.

  68. Limitations of SafahatXT
  69. SafahatXT does not support inserting automatic Kashidas in Arabic justified text, and supports only one line Latin mixing within Arabic boxes.
  70. SafahatXT does not support Drop Words and muli-level vowels.

  74. This demo version is a complete running version with the following exceptions:
  75. • Saved documents cannot be opened again.
